Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16, 1936 until August 17 15th, 2015) was an American dancer, actress and choreographer. Her most famous work is for her character in Batman's 1960s TV series Batman as well as Marta she was an Orion slave girl sporting green skin in Star Trek's 1969 episode "Whom Gods Destruction". The Huffington Post referred to her as "a pioneer in female super heroes" on TV. Yvonne Craig was raised in Columbus and was born in Taylorville in Illinois. Her family relocated to Dallas in 1951. She attended W. H. Adamson High School, Sunset High School, and later W. H. Adamson High School. The only problem was that she was not able to graduate as she didn't have "one PE credit". Craig was identified by Alexandra Danilova (a ballerina and teacher) and was accepted into the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as its youngest corps de ballet member. The training helped her when she did stunts playing Batgirl. In 1957, she quit the ballet company due to a dispute concerning casting changes. After that, she relocated to Los Angeles with the hope of making it a career for her. However, she did find herself appearing in film roles. Her first TV performances was in the TV series Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") in 1958 with Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later played Batgirl's stepfather, Police Commissioner James Gordon. Shortly afterwards, she appeared in three films - The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story, and Gidget (all 1959)--and was also a guest in the TV series Mr. Lucky as Beverly Mills in the episode "Little Miss Wow" (also 1959). Craig was seen with Bing Crosby and Seven Women from Hell (1960), where she was paired alongside Cesar Romero. In 1962, she appeared as a guest star in the Western Laramie episode "The Long Road Back". Craig also starred with Elvis Presley in the roles of was at the World's Fair (1963), and Kissin Cousins (64). She also appeared in the science-fiction film Mars Needs Women (1966) and was in In Like Flint (1967) as an in-character Russian ballet dancer alongside James Coburn.
