Ava DuVernay born August 24 72, in Long Beach, CA. DuVernay discovered her love for art through her aunt Denise. After graduating she attended her first year at the University of California Los Angeles where she received qualifications in English and African American studies. DuVernay started broadcasting journalism as a young student. She started as an intern for CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembered being told to look at the trash of the home of a juror. The work she was assigned to did not leave her satisfied in journalism, so she decided to shift her focus towards the field of publicity. DuVernay began her career as a junior publicity assistant for a film studio that was small following her graduation from the college. She was promoted to the position and set up her own public relations company called The DuVernay Agency in 1999. The agency was the first to launch a variety of lifestyle and promotion networks which include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
